Quitting on God?
Let’s be real.
Reading the Bible when you don’t understand it is hard.
Praying when you don’t feel God’s presence is frustrating.
Staying committed when you feel spiritually dry is exhausting.
I know, because that was me for years.
There were moments I wanted to give up completely. I thought, “Maybe this isn’t for me. Maybe I’m just not built for this.” I felt like I was praying to the air, reading words that meant nothing, and walking a walk that wasn’t getting me anywhere.
But by the grace of God, I didn’t give up.
I kept praying.
I kept reading the Word—even when it felt lifeless.
I kept showing up.
And then one day, just like that, everything changed.
I didn’t have a warning or a heads-up. There was no flash of lightning or dramatic music. But in a moment, I encountered Jesus—the Word made flesh. I didn’t just read the Bible anymore; I met the Author. The words came alive. The scriptures finally made sense. I could feel God’s presence like never before. It was as if I stepped into the appointed time God had prepared for me all along. Just like it says in Habakkuk 2:3, a scripture that has now become one of my favorite scriptures.
“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it.” — Habakkuk 2:3 (NASB)
There is an appointed them that God has allocated for each of us to be the day of our enlightenment. The day that the light switch of understanding scriptures flips on in our hearts. The day that God graciously decides to open our understanding to His powerful, life-giving word. There is power in our persistence in pursuing God. The more we draw near to Him, the closer we get to Him. In Jeremiah 29:13, God promises us that when we seek Him, we will definitely find Him when we seek Him with all of our heart. That is a promise!
What If I Had Given Up Too Soon?
Sometimes I wonder:
What if I had stopped one day short?
What if I had quit before my moment came?
What if I let frustration win over faith?
I would have missed the encounter that transformed my relationship with God forever. And you could be closer than you think. Your “appointed day” may not look dramatic, but it will be undeniable. The Holy Spirit knows exactly when and how to reveal Himself to you. The same God who met me is the same God who’s watching you pursue Him—and He honors every single step you take.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
Don’t Stop Now: Your Encounter Is Coming
I know how discouraging it feels when nothing seems to be working. I know what it’s like to read and pray and still feel spiritually numb. But this is your encouragement today: Keep going. Keep praying. Keep reading. Keep seeking. Even if you don’t feel it, God sees you. Even if you don’t understand it yet, He is preparing you. Even if it feels like nothing is happening, everything is happening beneath the surface.
Just like the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8, who was reading Scripture without understanding—God sent Philip to explain and bring revelation. And just like that, everything changed for him, too.
“So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.” – Acts 8:27-31 (NIV)
For years I struggled with studying my bible let alone understanding it and almost gave up on it completely until something happened that I'd never forget. It was a life changing experience.
You Are Not Alone
You’re not the only one who’s wrestled with the silence.
You’re not the only one who’s felt like giving up.
But you might be just one prayer away from breakthrough.
Don’t stop now.
Your encounter is coming.
Prayer prompt
Holy Spirit, meet me in the quiet moments. Open my eyes to see what I cannot yet see. Help me to stay committed even when it’s hard. I long for a deeper relationship with You, and I trust that You will meet me in my appointed time. Strengthen me to keep going until the day Your Word becomes alive in me. In Jesus' name, amen.
