It’s Not a Coincidence—Here’s Why You Should Call That Person That Popped Up in Your Mind
Have you ever had someone randomly pop into your mind, seemingly out of nowhere? Maybe it happened while watching a video, scrolling through your phone, doing chores, cooking dinner, driving to work. You paused, maybe even felt a little tug on your heart—but you ignored it.
Here’s the truth: it’s not a coincidence.
God still speaks, and one of the most common ways He does it is by placing someone on your heart for a reason—a divine prompting. I experienced this recently, and it reminded me that when God nudges you, it’s because He’s working behind the scenes.
The Unexpected Prompt That Changed Everything
I was watching a video that stirred something deep inside me. Emotions rose, and I thought, I need to talk to someone. Immediately, a friend’s name came to mind—but not the person I’d typically call. Honestly, I shrugged it off. It didn’t make sense.
But the name wouldn’t leave me.
It came again. Stronger. Clearer. Like the Spirit of God was saying, “Call her.”
So, I did. I dialed the number without overthinking it. And let me tell you—what happened next was nothing short of divine. Turns out, she needed that call way more than I needed to talk. She was going through something heavy, and my voice at that moment was a reminder to her that God sees her, that He hears her, and that He loves her deeply. I called thinking it was for me, but God used me to minister to her.
And isn’t that just like God?
He’ll use our moments of vulnerability, our emotions, even our confusion, as opportunities to partner with Him in loving His people.
God Uses You as a Vessel—Even When You Don’t Expect It
Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” (NIV)
That moment taught me something powerful: God allowed my emotions to be stirred, not for my sake, but so He could use me as a vessel. The Holy Spirit knew what my friend needed, and He used me to deliver it.
Sometimes, we expect ministry moments to happen at church or during “spiritual” events. But often, ministry happens in our everyday obedience—through a call, a text, or a conversation.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)
Obedience Opens the Door to Divine Appointments
When you ignore that nudge to reach out to someone, you could be missing out on a divine assignment. We often assume those thoughts are just random, but the Holy Spirit is intentional. He places people on our hearts for a reason.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” — Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)
You don’t have to know why. Just obey. It is vital that when God puts someone on our heart, that we respond. That call wasn’t about me. It was about my friend. And it wasn’t random. It was Spirit-led.
So, here’s your reminder: When someone crosses your mind, don't just brush it off. Pray. Reach out. Send the text. Make the call. That gentle prompting could be the Holy Spirit inviting you to be the answer to someone’s silent prayer.
Don’t overthink it. Don’t wait. Don’t reason your way out of it. Just obey. We are vessels—carriers of God’s love, encouragement, and comfort in a world that desperately needs it. Don’t underestimate the power of your obedience. You never know how God might use your simple “yes” to meet someone in a deep, divine way. You may never know the impact your obedience has on someone else’s life, but God does. And that’s all that matters.
Let God use you. Trust the prompt. Be the light someone needs. You’re not just doing something nice—you’re participating in something Kingdom.
When God speaks, respond.
