But God, Why? Does It Have to Be This Hard?
Have you ever found yourself crying out to God and asking, “Why does it have to be this hard?” You’ve prayed, fasted, believed, spoken the Word, and yet—it still feels like the promise is a million miles away.
You wonder:
Why do I have to fight so hard for what God already said is mine?
Why does it feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface?
Why does this faith walk sometimes feel impossible?
You’re not alone, and your questions are not wrong. But here’s the truth we often forget when the journey gets heavy: God is still God, and God is still faithful.
Walking with God isn't always easy. In fact, there are times when it feels unbearably hard—especially when you’re holding onto a promise and seeing no progress. The promise feels distant and the process feels crushing. You may even ask yourself, Is it worth it? Wouldn’t it be easier to just live as a “normal” Christian, keep it simple, go with the flow? Let’s be honest—contending for the promise takes faith. Not just faith for the moment, but faith for the long haul.
When You Feel Like You Don’t Have “That Kind of Faith”
There’s a unique type of discouragement that also comes when you compare your journey with someone else’s. Maybe you feel like you're falling behind spiritually. Maybe others seem to receive their breakthrough so easily, and you’re still struggling just to believe. You wonder, “God, do I even have the kind of faith it takes to see this through?” But the enemy would love for you to stop right there—to settle for less, to shrink back, to stay stuck. That’s why we must remember Who our faith is in. I love the reminder that we see in 2 Timothy 2:13. It says that “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.” Even when we lose faith, God remains faithful. Even when we waiver in our faith, God remains faithful. Even when we lose sight of faith, God remains faithful. Your faith might feel small, but your God is still big. Your strength might be weak, but His grace is sufficient.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
God Sees You—and He’s Still in Control. Even when your faith is flickering like a candle in the wind, God doesn’t forget His promise. He doesn’t change His mind. He doesn’t pull back His plans just because you’re weary. If He spoke it, He will fulfill it.
“God is not a man, that He should lie… Has He said, and will He not do it?” — Numbers 23:19 (ESV)
Maybe it’s hard because God is building you while He’s blessing you. Maybe He’s working on your character while you’re waiting for your calling to manifest. He hasn’t abandoned you—He’s preparing you. Hold On—Even When You Feel Like Letting Go. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, it’s frustrating. But friend—you are not alone in the fight. Every faith giant in the bible wrestled with their own “But God, why?” moments. You’re in good company. Remember God’s promise in Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified... for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV). God will never abandon you! Let your confidence rest in that. So don’t let go of the promise. Don’t settle. Don’t bow out because the road is rough. Let the fire refine you, not consume you.
Remember, He Is Still God. He Is Still Faithful.
Even when nothing makes sense.
Even when you feel behind.
Even when you think you don’t have enough faith.
God is still God. And He is still faithful.
Stay the course. Keep praying. Keep believing. He is not finished with you.
